Privacy policy
Last updated 22 October 2026
This policy explains what personal information Cyborg Skills collects, why, who it is shared with, and what you can ask us to do with it. We follow South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Who we are
Cyborg Skills is run by The Field Institute (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2017/313210/07), which is responsible for your personal information. Our address is [StrideShift office address to be added]. For anything about your information, including requests to our Information Officer, email hq@strideshift.ai.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address and, if you give it, your name. If you sign in with a password, it is stored only in scrambled form that nobody, including us, can read. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your name, email address and profile picture. We never see your Google password.
- What you buy: which products you bought, when, the amount, and the payment reference and subscription reference PayFast gives us. Your card details go only to PayFast; this site never sees or stores them.
- How you use the courses and videos: which course days and challenges you have completed, the reflections you write in the course, your answers to the before-and-after course surveys, and which videos you have watched.
- Emails we send you: a record of which course emails and receipts have been sent.
- Technical information: our hosting provider keeps short-term server logs, which include your IP address and browser type, to keep the site running and secure.
Cookies and storage in your browser
We use cookies only to keep you signed in and to remember whether you chose the light or dark look. Your browser also keeps unsent course reflections and saved games on your own device. We do not use advertising cookies or advertising trackers.
Why we use it
- To run your account and give you what you bought. This is needed to carry out our agreement with you.
- To send course emails, receipts and messages about your subscription.
- To answer your questions and handle refunds.
- To keep the site secure and prevent fraud.
- To keep the financial records the law requires, such as tax records.
- To send you news about new courses and videos, only if you have asked for it. You can stop these at any time with the link in each email.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Who we share it with
We use these companies to run the site. Each one handles your information only to provide its service to us.
- Supabase: stores the site's database and runs sign-in. Its servers are in Ireland.
- Vercel: hosts the website. It is based in the United States.
- PayFast: takes card payments and runs monthly subscriptions. It is based in South Africa.
- Resend: delivers our emails. It is based in the United States.
- Google: only if you choose to sign in with Google.
Because some of these companies keep information outside South Africa, your information may be stored in Ireland or the United States. We only use providers that are bound by data protection law or agreements that give it a level of protection comparable to POPIA. We may also share information when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account and learning activity. We keep records of purchases for five years, because South African tax law requires it, and then delete them.
How we protect it
Information travels to and from the site encrypted. Access to the database is limited to the people who run the site, and each person can only see their own account through the site.
Your rights
Under POPIA you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your information, unless the law requires us to keep it;
- stop using your information for a particular purpose, such as news emails.
Email hq@strideshift.ai to make any of these requests. We will reply within 30 days. If you are not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
Children
Cyborg Skills is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you have already given us, we will email you before it takes effect.
